City Garden

This compact urban garden illustrates how thoughtful landscape design can translate across contexts — from European city settings to dense residential environments in Dubai and the Middle East. Early collaboration, spatial clarity and a strong indoor–outdoor connection transform limited space into a refined outdoor living environment.

While this project was realised in Europe, the design principles applied are directly transferable to residential gardens and villas in Dubai and the Middle East.

Context & Concept

Designing a city garden requires precision and restraint. In this project, every square metre was considered in relation to use, privacy and spatial flow. The garden was conceived as a sequence of outdoor rooms, allowing different activities to coexist within a compact footprint while maintaining a sense of openness and calm.

Early collaboration

From the earliest stages, landscape design was developed in close dialogue with the interior layout and architectural framework. This early collaboration ensured that outdoor spaces aligned seamlessly with the home’s spatial logic, enabling the garden to support both the architecture and the way the residents move, live and gather throughout the day.

Indoor-outdoor connection

A strong visual and functional connection between the living kitchen and the garden was central to the design. Large openings blur the boundary between inside and outside, allowing the garden to become part of everyday life. Materials, levels and sightlines were carefully aligned to strengthen this relationship and enhance spatial continuity.

Compact living

The garden integrates a swimming pool, multiple terraces and a compact garden structure without feeling crowded. Terraces were positioned strategically to capture sunlight, privacy and views at different moments of the day. Together, these elements create a versatile outdoor space that feels generous, layered and adaptable despite its urban scale.
